Roof inspection cost in Houston: $0–$600 depending on what you need.
Five common inspection types, what each costs, and when it makes sense to pay vs. take the free option.

Free roofer walk-through
$0When: Routine assessment, buyer under contract, post-storm spot check
Most Houston roofers will walk a roof for free if there's reasonable chance of finding work. Good for a rough opinion; not a written report.
General inspector — roof add-on
$0–$75When: Bundled with a full home inspection
Your home inspector will look at the roof as part of the standard inspection. Cheap and convenient, but they aren't roof specialists — granular issues like step-flashing failures or hail bruising on the 'soft' slope often get missed.
Certified roof inspector (written report)
$150–$400When: Buying an older home, hail claim documentation, expert second opinion
Texas-licensed roofing inspector or RCI / IIBEC-certified. You get a written report with photos, age estimate, life-remaining estimate, and itemized condition notes. The right call for a $500K+ purchase or a contested claim.
Drone / thermal imaging inspection
$300–$600When: Steep roofs, large estates, suspected hidden moisture
Drone imagery + thermal scan finds moisture intrusion under decking. Worth it on complex Memorial or Bridgeland roofs where ladder access is dangerous or impossible.
Insurance claim adjustment
$0 (insurance pays)When: Filing a hail or wind claim
Your carrier sends an adjuster. Always have a roofer present for the adjustment — adjusters routinely miss 20–40% of claimable damage on first pass.
